Mentone (Costa Azzurra)

Sette giardini d’eccezione, degli ettari di spazio verde, dei parchi e dei giardini urbani, centinai d’alberi per le strade et composizioni floreali colorate per tutta la città : Passegiare à Mentone (Costa Azzurra) è una vera felicità per gli occhi.

La città vecchia

Piazzette ombreggiate e vicoli che scendono verso il mare, il cuore storico della città batte dietro alle facciate ocra, dalle persiane che filtrono la luce, preservando l’intimità delle case dagli assalti del sole.

Nel visitare i campanili con i lori tetti coperti da tegole verniciate, si attraversa la storia locale. L’Arte barocco è ben rappresentato dalla basilica Saint-Michel e dalla cappella dei Penitenti bianchi ( les Pénitents blancs).

In alto sulla collina si trova il cimitero del vecchio castello (Le Vieux-Château); è l’ultima villeggiatura degli aristocratici russi e britannici. Il luogo offre un panorama interessante sulla città, il mare, l’Italia e le montagne.

Visite guidate del Patrimonio. Tutti i martedi, alle ore 14.30, riunione davanti la basilica Saint-Michel e visite eccezionali su appuntamento.

I mercati e la strada pedonale

Soggiornando a Mentone, è praticamente impossibile non bighellonare nella strada pedonale che sbocca sul giardino del "Campanin " e sul mare. Luogo di passeggiata ineluttabile con botteghe varie, ristoranti e diverse piazze ombreggiate dove si possono sorseggiare bibite fresche sotto i platani secolari.

Situato tra il porto e la città vecchia, il mercato municipale, centenario, sfoggia mille colori, profumi, spezie e sapori del mezzogiorno. Senza dimenticare alcuni delle tante specialità locali tale i limoni, le marmellate di agrumi, i "barbajuans" , la "socca", la "pichade"...

L’accoglienza calorosa dei commercanti locali offre un’idea della convivialità mentonese.

Si ritrova lo stesso ambiente simpatico al mercato del Careï collocato all’inizio della valle omonima che, ogni mattino, sfoggia le sue bancarelle installate sotto i teloni blù-bianchi ai colori di Mentone.

Il lungomare

Da Garavan, vicino alla frontiera italiana, fino al comune di Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, Mentone offre tutti i tipi di spiagge, dalla sabbia ai ciottoli, dalle spiagge pubbliche a quelle private. Sul lato ovest la costruzione di dighe sottomarine ha permesso d’ingrandire notevolmente la loro superficie.

Ora le spiagge pubbliche accolgono i bagnanti su 30 metri di larghezza ...

Tutte le spiagge sono pulite e desinfettate ogni giorno durante l’estate e sono dotate di docce. Due di loro accettano i cani. La qualità delle acque marittime è garantita dalla nuova stazione di depurazione, sotteranea, e costruita con tecnologie d’avanguardia.

Menton (Côte d'Azur)

The markets and pedestrian street

It is practically impossible to stay in Menton without strolling down the pedestrian street. This central street is a must for all visitors to Menton as it is packed with shops and restaurants and extends from the sea front to the "Campanin" garden.

The Municipal market is located between the old port and the old city. Overflowing with colours, exotic aromas and flowers from the South of France, look out for Mentonnaise specialities such as lemons, spices and "barbbajuans" (fried vegetables and rice) delicious! The warm welcome given by the local shopkeepers gives a glimpse of the Mentonnaise conviviality.

One can find the same friendly atmosphere in the Careï valley where the Careï market sets-up under blue and white stripped canopies, the colours of Menton city.

The old city

Cool squares, narrow little streets cascading toward the sea: the historical heart of the city beats behind the ocre frontage of the houses. Sun light filters through the shuttered houses preserving the intimacy of the homes from the assalt of the sun.

We are brought back in time through the red-glazed rooftops of the bell-towers.

In Menton, Baroque Art gave rise to an incredible duo - the majestic "Basilique Saint-Michel" and a few steps higher "La Chapelle des Pénitents Blancs" (White Sinnners Church).

Directly above, right at the top of the hill, the "Vieux Château" cemetry can be located, Here, many Russian and British aristocracy have found their final resting place and here one can observe an unequalled view over the sea, Italy and the Mountains.

The sea front

 From Garavan, just next to the Italian border right to Carnolès, the Western limit of the community, there is a large variety of beaches. From sandy to pebbled and including public and private. On the western coast, the construction of the sea walls have given the sea front a new volume.

Nowadays the public beaches extend 30 metres to accomodate for swimmers and sun-bathers alike.

The Menton beaches are cleaned and disinfected daily in summer and are equipt with showers. 2 beaches have been specifically reserved for dogs. The underground purifying station, state of the art high technology, guarantees the quality of the water for swimmers.

Roquebrune Cap Martin

A strapiombo sulla città omonima costruita sul mare il villaggio medievale di Roquebrune sembra montare la guardia. Il ponte levatoio è sparito sostituito da un ponte di pietra che porta al maschio del vecchio castello fortificato.

Dal cammino di ronda, il panorama è splendido. Salite di vecchie scale, svolte di pietra, ferri battuti, piazzette tipiche, procurano tutt’insieme piacere e soprese varie durante tutta questa passeggiata pittoresca. Sul cammino che scende verso Mentone, si puo ammirare un ulivo millenario.

Arrivati giù, la passeggiata prosegue vicino al mare, intorno al Cap Martin dove si trovano delle splendide ville di differenti stile, e si scoprirà la casa di legno di Le Corbusier, famoso architetto degli anni 20.

Roquebrune Cap Martin

Overhanging the coastal village, the medieval village of Roquebrune appears to be standing guard. The drawbridge has long since disappeared, instead a stone bridge built in it's place brings you over the donjon of the old fortress castle. The rampart walk is spectacular. Climbing the steps upwards you are confronted with original arches, forged iron and charming little squares, all adding to a most pitturesque walk. On the road toward Menton one can find a 1,000 year old olive tree.

Right at the Bottom of Roquebrune, the walk continues to the sea front around Cap-Martin and to the discovery of the famous Corbusier chalet and other such incredible luxury properties.
